The study of lyrics is insufficient to fully understand it. I conclude that the narcocorrido is an ever-changing musical expression that is historically situated. The thesis consists of eight chapters: 1) The historical background of the narcocorrido, 2) Review of recent studies on the narcocorrido, 3) theoretical and methodological framework, 4) Story of the field work, 5) Censorship to narcocorrido, 6) Composition and interpretation of narcocorrido, 7) Dissemination, circulation, and consumption of narcocorrido, 8) Final considerations. My aim was to study the narcocorrido in everyday life of young people, attending practices, contexts, senses, and mediators linking music with its audience. My starting point was based on the Theory of Mediation, Actor-Network Theory and Quasi-ethnography. The composers and performers of northern music have captured the different realities of the so-called «war on drugs». Contemporary compositions have been adapted to current conditions, where drug trafficking, insecurity, and violence prevail. The postfix «corrido» refers to one of the oldest musical traditions in Mexico, which has been maintained throughout the history of this country. The prefix «narco» refers to drug- related issues. It is controversial, trendy, and widespread throughout the country. The narcocorrido is a popular musical expression in Mexico.
